Trump Pledges Patriot Missiles to Ukraine, Slams Putin
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he will send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, emphasizing the urgent need to help the country defend itself against ongoing Russian missile and drone strikes. He criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying, “Putin talks nicely, but then bombs everyone at night.”
Although Trump did not specify how many Patriot systems would be delivered, he noted that the European Union would reimburse the United States for the full cost. He added that the U.S. would also provide other advanced military equipment to Ukraine, stressing, “They will pay us 100% for that, and that’s how we want it.”
Trump’s remarks come amid his growing frustration with Putin, who has reportedly rejected Trump’s attempts to broker a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has repeatedly urged allies for more defensive capabilities in response to Russia’s daily bombardments.
Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump reiterated the urgency of bolstering Ukraine’s defenses. He also revealed plans to meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte later this week to discuss Ukraine and other key alliance matters.
