CZ’s Attorney Slams Media Over ‘Trump Pardon for Crypto Favors’ Narrative

Changpeng Zhao’s (CZ) legal counsel has sharply criticised recent media reports suggesting that former U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a pardon for the Binance founder in exchange for crypto-related political support. The attorney called the narrative “baseless speculation” and warned that such coverage risks distorting ongoing legal discussions and inflaming public misunderstanding around cryptocurrency regulation.

The controversy escalated after several U.S. political commentators and online outlets claimed that Trump’s campaign advisers were exploring a potential “crypto clemency deal” aimed at securing industry backing. CZ’s attorney dismissed the claims outright, stating that neither CZ nor his legal team has engaged in any negotiations involving political favours, crypto commitments, or quid-pro-quo arrangements.

Legal representatives emphasised that CZ is complying fully with all judicial requirements, following his previous sentencing and ongoing supervised release terms in the U.S. They argued that media speculation undermines due process and mischaracterises the factual status of the case.

Political analysts note that the story emerged amid intensifying debate regarding the role of digital assets in U.S. election financing and financial innovation policy. While Trump has publicly expressed interest in promoting the domestic crypto sector, no credible evidence has surfaced linking his campaign to any attempt to influence CZ’s legal outcomes.

Regulatory experts caution that repeated circulation of unverified claims could complicate broader policy discussions at a time when U.S. agencies—such as the SEC, CFTC, and Treasury Department—are reassessing oversight frameworks for major crypto intermediaries.

CZ’s attorney concluded that the legal team is prepared to issue formal corrections should the misinformation persist, stressing the importance of factual reporting as the case progresses. No official statements have been released by the Trump campaign regarding the matter.
